Welcome to our blog.
1. This spring there are many exciting things going on at Alaska Image Design Photography. We are getting a new flash Senior photography website. Always in the forefront of technology, last year we tried the tiltview type format which is still there and very cool the way it functions, but we found out that is has some tech glitches and was hard to keep tuned up the way we like to and the images were not as large as we would prefer.
Our images really do look awesome when made very large and the new site will take advantage of that, but to get that large effect we will have to go with tried and true, but older technology. Alaska Image Design was one of the first Alaska studios to even have a website. We have had many since then to showcase photography as diverse as our now out of service large adventure sport and Alaska tourism photography site. With that type of photography we have explored every nook and cranny of Alaska, especially the road system and even were location scouts for film and commercial companies that come to Alaska. Because of this we know Turnagin like the back of the proverbial hand and also the Mat-su valley.
2. Hi again, glad you are here. We hope to get some images posted soon of various shoots and such. Notice that we try to stay away from words like picture, photo and similar old school words as it kind of sounds unprofessional in today's marketplace. We like IMAGE to describe what we do that we and many of our patrons and clients feel are above the pack in creativity, artistry and in our kind of sleepy economy, value.
This May we will be having FANTASTIC specials on Senior Portrait Sessions. We are bringing back the very very cool and exciting SENIOR UNLIMITED.
We did not have it the last year because of time constraints during the rush of the Senior season. But it is back by popular demand in the spring only.
In May the Senior Unlimited will have no session fees and UNLIMITED clothing changes (girls love this) and UNLIMITED poses and UNLIMITED indoors and outdoor sessions which means you can have both.
The SENIOR UNLIMITED is a $300 value and includes a wonderful custom Image Design 8x10.

3. Adventure photography can be indeed very adventurous. We have done quite a bit of tourism, scenic and adventure photography in Prince William Sound. Last spring in 09, we came across a young grey whale that we believe was being chased from below by Killer whales by the way the grey whale was jumping it seemed for it's very life back and forth across the sound. We were in our chase boat and got close to this whale at times so that water drops can be seen on the picture that were of course on the camera lens.
Here is a the photograph of the Alaska ferry steaming down a passage bearing down fast toward our boat blowing smoke and cutting a bow wave toward us and the whale. To be a real adventure photographer, you have to be, well, adventurous.
To the right of the whale shot can be see a few of the outdoor and tourism photography I have done. Some are over 10 years old and still sell and still look fresh. I keep them thumbnail size as they are still under international contract at a stock photography agency and are copyrighted. Many of the sports I have done myself. I have many images of mountain biking, climbing, canoe and kayaking, skiing, snowboarding and many more. The Anchorage Daily news has used my images of tourism over the years more than any other Alaska photographer. I belong to a number of international stock photography agencies. Contact me if you need any Alaska outdoor or tourism images. We have CD's and individual images for sale. We also carry beautiful scenic images of Alaska for wall display. I pioneered the use of the bright primary yellow and red colors to catch your attention and I have seen that copied now all over the world. I once had 10's of thousands of these images and got burned out on outdoor photography as it seemed I had done it all and actually ran out of locations and it got boring, if you can imagine adventure boring.
Photography may notice that these images were taken before digital cameras ruled the day. All were taken on slide film with no photoshop, what you see is what you get old school photography.
In the composition of the man standing in a close-up holding a canoe paddle at Kenai Lake, notice the use of primary red in his vest, the placement of the red canoe and the yellow tent. The blue jeans compliment the blue sky and the bright blue lake. The interplay of the muted yellow tree ties the image together and the purple pack adds a punch. This is the photography rule of thirds carried to the extreme on purpose. At one time I had an actual shed of various colored tents, packs and many outdoor props of all kinds. Many of the models we used had a real ball and a really great time experiencing the greatest state of all. Alaska.
4. JESSICA Senior Portraits

from last fall. Jessica is an artist and loved our work.
Jessica is a fine artist and can use color very well although this shot of her work is black and white. Jessica has so many great shots it was hard to edit down the shoot to the final 40. We are busy gearing up for the 2011 Senior Portrait season. We have a new really cool website and more.
5. Lisa's and Darren's Winter Wedding - Winter wedding are tougher than summer wedding most of the time as it is dark, cold and lacks the pop of spring and summer colors. Winter wedding can be romantic and fun weddings though as evidenced by Lisa and Darren's winter wedding. Hear are a few outtakes from the wedding shoot and a few more can be seen on the main wedding page. There are some really nice shots overlooking Anchorage showing the city lights of the "winter" city.
6. Wow, we have been busy lately with spring cleanup at the studio and just a lot of spring things in general. We have literally hundreds of new Senior images coming to the website soon. Many are exceptional with that designer look we are known for. Keep checking in for new and exciting images on this blog also. We have the Senior Spring Special posted on the Senior page. It is the best value and really great and exciting promotion we have had so far. Check it out!
We love all our brothers and sisters in the United States military and we are proud that they are standing up for what is right or wrong in the world. Our ongoing 10% military discount is always in effect. Sometimes in the heat of battle (taking photographs) we may overlook the discount if you don't mention it, or a lot of times I get carried away talking to the troops, so make sure you mention the discount.
7. I thought for something different I would show an example of what we mean by Artography. Artography is the application of advanced photography techniques such as light temperature balance which creates an artful depiction of the subject in a natural manner. The basics of the shot includes artistic composition of the subject so that you feel that you are not looking at a photography but that the viewer is somehow connected to the feeling and personality of the person depicted in the image. This is an example of Artography.
8. Lately we have been having fun with a few model shoots for fitness folks and regular fashion type models wanting to promote themselves in the local and lower 48 market. Hope to have some images up as soon as possible. The new Senior High School page is now completed an online. It is a full screen slideshow of images that really "pop" the photos so that the real effect of our photography can be enjoyed by all.

Our thought for today is: Cameras don't take photographs. Professional Photographer do. Another way to put it would be "It's not the tool, but the carpenter"
9. GREGS CORVETTE SUMMER Senior Portraits
Shooting Gregs Corvette was a blast a while back. We shot a lot of different scenes and angles and Greg loved the shots. We have shot a lot of cars over the years and know the right angles and lighting for super results that give a professional appeal to the images. As a former location scout for commercial, film and outdoor photography companies I know the very very hot locations on the Alaska road system and beyond.
10. MODEL SHOOT
Yeaaa, We are very busy, but will be finally gettin' a few model shoots posted! No matter how little model experience you may have or none at all like most aspiring Alaska models, we will make you look like you are a pro. If your a pro we will look even more professional. These are just a few images from an extensive shoot. As you can tell our model was having a lot of fun!
11. LACY , TIM and SON Family Portrait I did Lacy and Tims wedding a while back and they came in for a family Portrait shoot. Lots of fun and great poses.
12. FITNESS and GLAMOUR SHOOT The studio was full of fitness competitors, trainers and all had photo shoots and a great fun time. A few out takes of the many images shot.
Thought for today is: Why is it that people that would not pick up a wrench and call themselves a Plummer are quick to pick up a camera and call themselves a photographer?
